  • From Jim Stewart on Island Express - Bus Schedule

What a wonderful idea for the residents of Saba. The schedule is great. Hopefully this will reduce traffic and Saba’s friendly Taxi drivers will still be in demand for their important services.

  • From Drs. H. René CADERIUS VAN VEEN on World Mental Health Day - Research Findings on Mental Health and Safety on Saba

Without having visited Saba, these “expert researchers” could have been writing exactly the same!
What a waste of money to send these “researchers” around!

  • From Claire L Frankel on From October 8, St Maarten requires an online immigration form

Is this new form required for residents of Saba who are just passing through the St. Maarten airport on their way home to Saba ??

  • From Claire Frankel on Opinion: Immediate action required at Saba Comprehensive School

Saba has many educated snowbird residents who start returning to our island in the November to January time frame. And stay through April/May. We could provide teaching in our major subjects, tutoring and/or assistance in classrooms. Just appoint a Liaison person to catalog the need in each classroom and match it up with a willing snowbird. I can teach Math and business computer skills.

  • From BES Islander on Saba Launches Publicroam and Govroam in government buildings

How amusing that on the new (2024) government wifi initiative “publicroam” in the dropdown list of countries there is no “BES Islands”, there is no “Dutch Caribbean”, there is no “Caribisch Nederland” – the only option is “Netherlands Antilles”. Wasn’t this replaced 14 years ago?

  • From R Lee on Monopoly and Outdated Cables Keep Internet Expensive on BES Islands

I recall, Saba announced with pride about installing more fiber. Then the Dutch government denied Sabans the use of airwaves and satellites providers, like Starlink.
Now, an article about the expense of fiber.

Is this just preparatory news to soften the blow of how much that fiber project will be costing the people?

Air is free. Fiber is not.

  • From DSL on Monopoly and Outdated Cables Keep Internet Expensive on BES Islands

If only there was a satellite provider that provided high speed worldwide internet to remote places at an affordable cost….oh thats right…there is….Perhaps Approve Starlink for use in Saba!

  • From Chad on Monopoly and Outdated Cables Keep Internet Expensive on BES Islands

Here is a crazy thought. License STARLINK! No subsidy needed, $80 for quality Internet… Let the local companies resell the equipment, do installations and process payments. They still make their money and keep staff, but the rest of us win with better internet.
