Opinion: Winair passengers pay $415 for a 12 min flight Saba – SXM. No surprise Winair Reports Strong Growth

Dear Editor,

Winair’s performance is strong, with recent reports showing positive trends in the third quarter of 2025. The airline reported a 21% increase in passengers, a 10% increase in scheduled capacity, and a 26% rise in total revenue compared to the same period last year, putting it on track for a potentially record-setting year. Performance highlights also include increased passenger and revenue growth in early 2025.

I booked the 25-mile flight from Saba to St. Maarten with Winair for Christmas shopping.
This is the booking on Winair’s website. For paying online, they charge extra on top of this.

Can I report them to the police for robbing customers? Maybe also the Dutch Government which is a shareholder in Winair and therefore also gets a part of the profit?

  1. This is because of sxm airport taxes had they booked a one way to sxm they would’ve pay 1 something. Most persons from EUX and SABA fly in on winair the catch the boat back to their home just to save on sxm airport taxes.

  2. Maybe I should get swimming lessons to facilitate the trip. That would reduce the cost, but it is difficult to take the presents and food. There will be no supply boat for 3 weeks to Saba because of the holidays.
Taking the boat means a long trip on a small ferry over the Atlantic Ocean. Even the sickness Insurance does not approve the transport of their clients on the boat.

Just consider what we have to suffer because of these extreme costs.

    • I suggest …SHOPPING ON LINE!!! Before I ever would pay $400.00 plus to fly 12 minutes…and then spend more to rent that car, gas, lunch,on and on! IAM SHOPPING THIS CHRISTMAS ON THE LINE!!!!!!!!FFS!!!!!

  3. A concern customer

This has nothing to do with sint maarten airport taxes .
Depending on where you are going it can cost between 10 to 35 usd, on the winaire ticket it was 60 usd this changes depending on the time of year you are traveling, last but not least international flight can go up to 200 usd for taxes
Please fact check before coming online.

The price has everything to do with competition,
There is only one airline going to these small islands, therefore they can make their own prices and get away with it.
When an airline is the only one giving these services. They are allowed to do what they want. If there were more options to get to these islands this will not happen.
Furthermore I think that island hopping in the Caribbean should be allowed and be affordable.
I mean in Europe (London to the Netherlands) you can travel back and forth for 100 euro or less in the off seasons. The flight is one hour by the way. Why can’t this also be happening in the Caribbean,
