Update

There is now more than one case of dengue on Saba; therefore it can be concluded that the dengue virus is circulating on the island.

Dengue is a viral infection spread from mosquitos to people. The infection can range from causing no symptoms to causing a severe flu-like illness that can on occasion result in a potentially lethal complication called Severe Dengue.

Symptoms

There are other seasonal illnesses currently spreading, including influenza. Influenza and dengue can share common symptoms. It is recommended that you contact Saba Cares at 599.416.3288 if you experience a combination of any of the following symptoms:

  • Rash Nausea/ vomiting
  • Sudden fever Sudden muscle, bone or joint pain
  • Headache, especially behind the Swollen glands
    eyes

Timely confirmation of dengue is crucial for your medical care. Protection and Prevention of Dengue

During the busy holiday season, please remain vigilant and protect yourself from mosquito bites, especially during the daytime hours. Continue to monitor potential breeding areas outside and inside your home to reduce and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.

Community participation is crucial to dengue prevention!

With everyone doing their part to reduce mosquito breeding grounds, and exposure to bites, transmission rates can be decreased.
